The Nationals Just Walked Off the Brewers on a Two-Run Error at the Plate
I thought you might enjoy a Nationals-Brewers highlight this afternoon.
The Brewers were up 2-1 in the bottom of the 9th, with All-Star closer Devin Williams on to wrap up the win. Unfortunately for the Brewers, the first Nationals batter reached on an error by Carlos Santana. The next guy singled. The next guy walked. And suddenly the bases were loaded with nobody out, and the Brewers trying desperately to get out of it and secure the win.
This was not the way to do it:
That was an almost perfect bouncer to third base in that situation, where you can at least cut down the lead runner at home. But Andruw Monasterio’s throw was wide, not only allowing the tying run to score, but then allowing the winning run to come flying around from second to walk the game off. That was old friend Ildemaro Vargas scoring the winning run, by the way. Thanks!
