Juvenile arrested for Abingdon High School threat
ABINGDON, Va. (WJHL) — A juvenile was taken into custody after a threat prompted a lockdown at Abingdon High School.
The Abingdon Police Department said it received a report of a threat made at the high school on Wednesday. The school was placed on lockdown and extra police officers responded as a precaution.
An APD spokesperson told News Channel 11 that the lockdown was later lifted and students dismissed after the threat was determined to not be credible.
“We take every threat seriously and have taken swift action to ensure the safety of all students, staff, and faculty,” the APD stated.
An investigation was launched and a juvenile was arrested and charged with threat of death or bodily injury to a person on school property, according to police.
Abingdon’s lockdown came on the same day that hoax threats were made to schools across Tennessee, including four in Northeast Tennessee.
The APD did not confirm if the threat made was related to the string of hoax calls made to Tennessee schools and law enforcement agencies Wednesday.
