May 2023 update lands on Galaxy S22, starting with Snapdragon variant
Samsung is one week into the May 2023 security patch rollout, and the company seems to add new devices to the update queue every day. Today, the Snapdragon-powered Galaxy S22 has joined the party.
The May 2023 update is now live for the Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22+, and Galaxy S22 Ultra models powered by Qualcomm — more specifically, the SM-S901E, SM-S906E, and SM-S908E variants. The rollout began in Brazil and should extend to more markets across the South American continent.
The software has firmware version S90xEXXS4CWD5, which suggests that this is just a routine security patch and that no new features have been added to the Galaxy S22 series through the May 2023 update. Nevertheless, Galaxy S22 users probably won’t scoff at their devices becoming more secure, especially given that the May 2023 update fixes more than 70 flaws.
Samsung should expand the May 2023 update’s availability to cover more Galaxy S22 variants in other markets, and in theory, the Exynos models shouldn’t be too far behind the Snapdragon ones.
In markets where the May 2023 update is available, Galaxy S22 users should receive a notification. When tapped, they can begin the update process. Alternatively, Galaxy S22 users can open the Settings app, access “Software update,” and tap “Download and install.” As for users who prefer manual updates over a PC, they can download the official firmware files from our website.
