First Lady Dr. Jill Biden arrived at Westminster Abbey Friday morning ahead of the coronation of King Charles III and Queen Camilla – just hours after President Biden brushed off questions about skipping the event.

Jill, 71, wore a pale blue suit to the storied event. She was accompanied as she arrived shortly after 9:30 local time by granddaughter Finnegan Biden, 23, whose father is President Joe Biden’s younger son, Hunter, in a yellow dress.

The pair wore the colors of the Ukraine flag in a visible statement of support for the war-torn country.

Both women sported headband fascinators in a nod to Britain’s headpiece tradition.

The First Lady is attending the coronation – which is set to begin at 11 a.m. local time – in place of her husband.

“I told [King Charles] I couldn’t be there because I have this going on,” Biden, 80, told MSNBC’s Stephanie Ruhle in an interview that aired Saturday morning.

“He’s a good acquaintance and we’ve worked together on environmental issues,” he said of the 74-year-old king.

The octogenarian added that he would be in London this summer for the NATO conference.

No American president has ever attended the coronation of a British monarch.

President Dwight D. Eisenhower – who was close with the late Queen Elizabeth II – sent a delegation of dignitaries to the latter’s 1953 ceremony.
