A woman on TikTok who goes by maymaymay (@fostercarechronicles) recently shared a story detailing one of the terrible experiences she had in a foster home.

She consistently shares these stories, as the mantra for her page is “Bringing awareness and sharing stories of HOPE.”

According to childwelfare.gov, there are over 391,000 children and youth in the foster care system. Unlike adoption, foster care is meant to be temporary, with children potentially moving from home to home. In that population, up to 80% have significant mental health issues.

In this specific testimony, she spoke about one of the discipline tactics used on her in a strict household.

“I got caught going into someone’s room one time, and I had to go through their room to get to mine, so it’s kind of dumb that that was a rule,” she said.

She noted that the parents couldn’t use corporal punishment or anything similar. As a response, she claimed the punishments were creatively intense.

“One of them was that you had to sit for hours on end,” she said. “You can’t move during these things. If you’re moving around or looking around, your time restarts”

She also claimed that sometimes they made her sit at at piano and stare straight into the sheet music for hours. At the end of her story, @fostercarechronicles said that on her way back to her room from the first punishment, she accidentally broke one of the other kid’s toys. She instantly had to go back to sitting for hours.

There were also people in the comments that said they endured similar things to @fostercarechronicles’ recollections.

“I was in foster care for four years and it sucked they I was always in trouble for something no matter what and the punishments were weird,” replied @ella_malcolm1108.

In the Know by Yahoo reached out to @fostercarechronicles for further clarification on her experience, but didn’t receive a response.

At the end of the day, there was overwhelming sympathy for her from the viewers.

“This broke my heart just to hear, I’m so sorry u had to live thru it,” said @amy_r_giles.

While there isn’t a part two of the story, @fostercarechronicles has several more anecdotes of her time in the foster care system.
