The 1980s hit sitcom Full House made household names of John Stamos and Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen... though Stamos is opening up on the time he briefly got the newborn twins fired from the pilot episode.

The 59-year-old actor spoke about the brief firing on an episode of the Good Guys podcast with Stamos' co-star from Grandfathered, Josh Peck.

It happened during a now-famous scene from the pilot, where his character Jesse Katsopolis and Dave Coulier's Joey Gladstone are literally hosing off one of the Olsen twins in an unorthodox way as part of changing her diaper.

Peck asked Stamos, 'Did you try to get the Olsen Twins fired?' and Stamos casually answered, 'I did. I didn't try.'

Stamos explained that both of the Olsen twins weren't exactly cooperating, which lead them to be fired, if ever so briefly.

'OK, we're doing the scene where Joey and I are changing the baby, right? And Danny's gone and says, "Take care of the kids,"' Stamos began.

Stamos added that they told Danny, 'Yeah, we got it,' but they found themselves quite out of their depth when the baby needed to be changed, leading to them rushing the baby down the stairs, through the living room and into the kitchen.

'We're carrying the baby downstairs and we take her in the kitchen and we hose her down and she was screaming,' Stamos explained.

'Both of them. They wanted to be anywhere else but there, and so did I,' he said, adding they were both 11 months old at the time.

'They kept switching - "This one's not gonna cry" - I couldn't deal with it. I said this is not gonna work, and they got rid of them,' Stamos explained.

He added they went on to bring in, 'these two red-headed kids and I'm sure their parents loved them and thought they were attractive.'

Peck asked if the Olsen twins knew they got fired, and Stamos just said, 'They do now,' adding it was only a few days later when Stamos said, 'Bring those Olsens back. These kids are terrible.'

The Olsen twins remained on the show for the full eight season run from 1987 to 1995, starring in all 193 episodes.

The twins did not return, though, for the Netflix revival series Fuller House, though all of their original co-stars did return, including Stamos.

The news comes four months after Stamos paid tribute to his late Full House co-star Bob Saget, on the one-year anniversary of his untimely death at 65.

The actor shared a video on Instagram of him and Saget between takes, goofing around on the set.

In the recording, Stamos can be heard saying, 'We'll never have another show like this,' before Saget interjected: 'My agent told me I'll never have another show!'

The You star went on to caption the video with a Charlie Chaplin quote, which read: 'A day without laughter is a day wasted.'

'It’s hard sometimes Bob without you, but we’ll try. We’ll keep loving and will keep hugging just like you want us to,' he continued.

The father-of-one continued: 'I can’t believe it’s been a year, time flies when you’re grieving I guess.'

His comment section was flooded with loving comments from many of his more than 3.8 million Instagram followers, wife Caitlin McHugh and former Full House costars.

'Love you so much,' his on-screen niece, Jodie Sweetin, wrote beneath Stamos' post while Candace Cameron Bure wrote: 'Isn’t this the truth.'
