Enhanced Box Score: Twins 11, Cubs 1 - May 13, 2023
Seems like it’s been a minute since the Cubs had a loss that really pushed the run differential in the other direction. I guess they’re suddenly less unlucky now?
I’m kinda kidding, I guess. What else can you do after a loss like that?
Chalk this one up to a development experience for Hayden Wesneski. A bad, bad day thanks to a flurry of long balls, driven mostly by what has bugged him in his bad starts all year:
So much of the story with Hayden Wesneski's rough starts are embodied in this image – tons of non-competitive balls out of the hand make for easier at bats for the Twins, a clear lack of command in the zone makes it a lot easier sit on certain pitches (in certain zones & counts). pic.twitter.com/IRaVpDb1S4 — Bleacher Nation (@BleacherNation) May 13, 2023
More on that coming tomorrow.
The bats were largely ineffectual today against a very good Twins starter. Apparently Eric Hosmer hit his breaking point and got himself tossed on a borderline pitch, which brought David Ross out of the dugout to also get himself tossed (something I’d kinda expected from him over the last few weeks, because the Cubs did face some bad calls amidst the losing, and that’s usually when you see a manager go out and take one for his player(s)).

On to the next. Take the series tomorrow.
