ASUS ROG Ally Delivers Great Emulation Performance Thanks To AVX-512 On AMD Ryzen Z1 APUs, 60 FPS In God of War 3 at 1080p
The ASUS ROG Ally handheld is also a great device to emulate games on thanks to its AMD Ryzen Z1 APUs with AVX-512 support.
Emulators For Older PS3 Games Love The AMD Ryzen Z1 APU's AVX-512 Support on ASUS ROG Ally Handheld
The ASUS ROG Ally was introduced a few days ago for a starting price of just $599 US for the base Ryzen Z1 variant and $699 US for the Ryzen Z1 Extreme variant. Housing the AMD Ryzen Z1 APUs, one huge advantage that the handheld offers is support for AVX-512 instructions which offer great performance across various emulators including RPCS3.
We saw a teaser of emulation performance on AMD's Phoenix APUs by The Phawx but ETA Prime is the first to provide emulation benchmarks on the ASUS ROG Ally handheld and things are looking really great.
Starting with the Dolphin Emulator, you will be ready and set with the 9W TDP mode & get a solid 60 FPS at 1080p across all titles. The same goes for PS2/PCSX2 emulator which runs great at 1080p (15W mode) running several games at 60 FPS. For the PSP emulator, you will be able to run any of the compatible titles such as God of War Chains of Olympus at 1080p / 60 FPS with a 7W TDP. That is going to deliver some awesome battery times while playing the game.
The 3DS Citra Emulator was a hard run on AMD APUs due to the emulator using an OpenGL back-end but with new AMD drivers and OpenGL-specific optimizations, you can either do 1080p@60 at 13W or the native resolution of the 3DS at just 7W.
Moving over to the Xbox 360 Emulator, ETA Prime showcased gameplay of Red Dead Redemption running at a native 30 FPS at 30W and 53 FPS on average with V-Sync disabled and at the 45W TDP mode. Yuzu also provides a solid 30 FPS at the 15W mode across various titles.

The hardest title on the list was God of War 3 on the RPCS3 emulator. This was a really hard game to run on PCs and is only able to offer 15-25 FPS on a Steam Deck at 720P. Meanwhile, the ASUS ROG Ally doesn't even sweat with an outstanding 60 FPS at 1080p using the 30W mode.
Once again, this goes on to show that AMD made an absolutely great decision by putting AVX-512 support on its Ryzen Z1 APUs which handhelds such as the ASUS ROG Ally can utilize. Other Ryzen Phoenix 7040U/H/HS APUs will feature similar performance though battery timings and power will be a tad bit better for the Z1 Extreme due to its handheld-exclusive optimizations.
