Daigo Umehara analyzes how he's been able to win so much against other top players in the Street Fighter 6 Demo
It's been a few weeks since the Street Fighter 6 Demo was made available. To address the problem of being unable to play against opponents in online matches within this demo, Japanese Street Fighter pros have been meeting up in person to play one other.
BST|Daigo Umehara has been racking up a number of victories in the early life of Street Fighter 6. In a recent video uploaded by FGC Translated, Daigo attempts to analyze why he's been winning so much while practicing in a session with Jazzy.
"Maybe Street Fighter 6 is similar to older games?" wondered Jazzy in regards to how often Daigo has been winning in the Street Fighter 6 Demo.
"I don't know. I don't really feel that way, though. I do feel like it's a new game, but I'm already winning," responded Daigo. "I don't play a lot, and I only play when people come here."
"Maybe Ryu has returned," declared Jazzy.
"Maybe that's what it is," said Daigo while laughing at this comment. "It's because it's Ryu."
Although Daigo is generally known for playing Ryu in Street Fighter titles, he's actually been playing Guile throughout most of his time while competing at Street Fighter 5. Though Ryu was deemed to be very strong initially in Season 1 of Street Fighter 5, he ended up getting nerfed pretty hard the second season.
However, it would appear that Daigo has been a huge fan of Ryu's design in Street Fighter 6. As such, it seems very likely at the moment that Daigo will be maining Ryu once Street Fighter 6 is officially released on June 2, 2023.
Of course, it's also noted that Street Fighter 6 apparently caters more towards Daigo's playstyle more so than Street Fighter 5. More specifically, Daigo believes that Street Fighter 6 rewards offense better than Street Fighter 5.
"I think the biggest factor is whether it's the kind of game where I can whiff punish or not," stated Daigo. "That's the biggest advantage to me. I personally like the kind of game where you're rewarded when you have the right reads."
"Street Fighter 6 is the kind of game I like, rather than the kind of game I'm good at," concluded Daigo. Check out the video below to hear the rest of Daigo's analysis:
