ST. LOUIS – A heavy downpour dumped anywhere between 3 and 6 inches of rain Sunday afternoon on parts of the St. Louis metropolitan area.

Earlier in the afternoon, the National Weather Service issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for most of the FOX 2 viewing area (in Missouri and Illinois) through 10 p.m.

A lot of rain in a short amount of time flooded select areas on the interstates around town, leading to traffic delays and diversions. I-55 was temporarily closed at Reavis Barracks due to standing water, and eastbound I-64 was again closed off between Hampton and Skinker. At least one lane of traffic could get through by 8 p.m.

Stay tuned to the Fox 2 Weather Team for updates.
