According to state police, Fofena was playing at a Castle Island park Sunday evening on the coastline, accompanied by an adult family member.
The adult — who WCVB identified as the boy’s grandfather — lost sight of Fofena shortly after 7 p.m. and reported him missing around 7:30 p.m.

Family members told WCVB that Fofena has autism and is not able to communicate with others. The boy’s mother told NBC10 Boston that he is energetic and has a tendency to wander.
“If you saw Mohemed, please help me,” his mother told WCVB. “Help me … my little baby, please, please.”
A large group of police, firefighters, and other first responders searched Castle Island Sunday night for Fofena, but the “exhaustive search” turned up no sign of the boy, according to state police.
Multiple fire trucks and Boston EMS vehicles were seen in the area. A helicopter hovered overhead, casting a searchlight down into the darkness. The state police’s dive team was also involved, The Boston Globe reported.
