Tekken 7 top 8 qualifier begins with crazy double KO and somehow ends even wilder at Combo Breaker 2023
Even with Tekken 8 on the horizon, the Tekken 7 competitive community is still hungry as hell, and they really came to prove themselves this weekend.
Potentially the best set at Combo Breaker 2023 just went down before top 8 where LNC|Joey Fury and TUE|Genghisdon had an extraordinary match to qualify that could not have been closer.
Tied up with 2 rounds apiece in the first game, Genghisdon had a sizable life lead, but Jack-7 with Rage can quickly even things up with just a few hits of his own.
Joey burns his Rage Drive to tie up the health, which puts both characters in a one-touch scenario, and that's just what they'd do.
With the timer running out, both players attempt to throw out one of their fastest moves, and they actually collide for a double KO, which ends the match in a draw.
There was some discussion afterwards if the set would be 1-1 or 0-0 after that crazy start, but the rules essentially had them start over again.
Moving onto the final game, Genghisdon once again had a massive life lead with the matches and round count even, so things were looking good — but again, Jack in rage can change that quickly.
Joey Fury pushes Katarina to the wall and whittles her down to a sliver of health, and then we're treated to arguably the wildest moment of the tournament.
We get the slow-mo camera shot of Katarina jump kicking over Jack's punch, but it's not enough to take the giant down for good.
Instead, Joey stays alive and manages to low parry the follow-up to end the ridiculous set as the commentators and crowd absolutely lost their minds over what they just witnessed.
With that, Joey Fury punched his ticket to top 8, but now has to follow that up with more strong performances if he wants a shot at the Combo Breaker title.
