Incredible Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Fan Art Draws Inspiration From Akira
One Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom player has recreated the Akira cover image of Kaneda and his iconic motorcycle using Link and a custom build. Since it was released in 1988, Akira has been used as a template for multiple fan art projects, and this Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom player gives enthusiasts an idea of what Link would look like with a futuristic motorcycle of his own.
Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom was just released last month, and players have already made countless creations utilizing the build and fuse mechanics introduced to the series with the Breath of the Wild sequel. With some fans using their unique builds in incredible fan art, the creative possibilities with Tears of the Kingdom exceed an already high standard set with earlier Legend of Zelda installments. Taking their custom Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom vehicle beyond the Nintendo Switch game, one player has added some text to a simple screenshot to make an awesome image.

Reddit user Ryzbl recently shared a screenshot from one of the floating islands that they discovered in their Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom adventure. The Tears of the Kingdom protagonist Link is approaching a mechanical green object that resembles a motorcycle that is used to reflect Kaneda's vehicle from Akira with a notable swap from red to green. Shortening the title of the game to one word in order to match the Akira cover like other fan art has, the design sees bold letters spelling out Zelda, with bright green Japanese characters that presumably spell the same word since they differ from those used in Akira.
According to Ryzbl, the main imagery in their Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom fan art was captured from their gameplay, with font added separately in Photoshop to make the reference clearer. The Tears of the Kingdom player confirmed that the hardest detail to nail in their Akira-inspired fan art was the angle of the shadow protruding from the Nintendo hero in the green tunic as he approaches Ryzbl's customized bike. Because of how well Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and Akira go together in Ryzbl's art, many fans have already made edits to the image so that they can easily transfer it to a phone or monitor background, with others hoping for a poster or t-shirt version.
Despite Ryzbl being the creator of this Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and Akira mashup art, there's already an unrelated account trying to profit from their work by selling a "skewed version" on a poster. Given that shows like Cyberpunk Edgerunners continue to reference the popular anime movie, and an Akira collaboration with Fortnite has been leaked, this Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom fan art may be far from the last project to pay homage to the 1988 film.
Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is available now for Nintendo Switch.
