Jonathan Majors' ex-girlfriend granted full temporary restraining order as Manhattan DA investigates
Actor Jonathan Majors' ex-girlfriend Grace Jabbari has been granted a full temporary restraining order by the Manhattan District Attorney's following an alleged incident which saw Majors accused of strangulation, assault and aggravated harassment.
It follows a limited temporary order of protection that was granted during Majors' arraignment in March.
The actor, who has denied any wrongdoing, is set to appear in court on May 9. The Manhattan District Attorney's office had not made any public comments regarding the case until this latest development.
Majors was arrested on March 25 in New York after police responded to a 911 call relating to a domestic dispute in the Chelsea neighborhood.
According to the NYPD, the incident involved a 30-year-old woman who alleged she had been assaulted by the actor.
The Manhattan DA's office has granted a full temporary order of protection for the woman involved in case against actor Jonathan Majors
Jonathan Majors who played Kang in Ant-man and the Wasp earlier this year had signed on for at least three more Avengers projects
His performance in Creed III earned rave reviews with the star generating 2024 Oscar buzz for another project
Majors' now ex-girlfriend Grace Jabbari said in a criminal complaint that the scuffle left her with a laceration behind her ear and an injured right hand - something her ex's lawyers say is disproved by the yet-to-be released security footage
The woman reportedly sustained minor injuries to her head and neck.
Majors was subsequently released from police custody on the same day.
In an initial statement, representatives for the actor stated that he had done nothing wrong. Majors' criminal defense lawyer, Priya Chaudhry, echoed such sentiments in a statement last week.
Indeed, the Marvel star's ex, Grace Jabbari, was said to have used physical force against Majors during the incident, according to a set of March text messages.
In the texts she calls herself the aggressor and says she hopes that the Ant-Man and the Wasp and Creed III actor will not get prosecuted.
The girlfriend wrote, 'please let me know when you got this. They assured me that you won't be charged.
'They said they had to arrest you as protocol when they saw the injuries on me and they knew we had a fight.'
'I'm so angry that they did. And I'm sorry you're in this position. Will make sure nothing happens about this.'
'I told them it was my fault for trying to grab your phone...'I only just got out of hospital... just call me when you are out.'
The actor did not respond.
A few hours later, around 9:30pm she sent another text message to Majors, telling him that she spoke to officials again.
In the text, she wrote, in part, 'reiterated how this was not an attack and they do knot have my blessing on any charges being placed.'
Chaudhry also claimed that Majors had provided irrefutable evidence to the District Attorney's office, showing that the charges were false expressing confidence that Majors would be fully exonerated.
Attorneys for embattled actor Jonathan Majors have claimed that surveillance video exonerates their client in his ongoing domestic violence case, citing footage that shows his accuser (circled) clubbing and socializing in the hours after she said was assaulted
Only stills, several of the images come from security footage from Loosie’s Nightclub between 1:55 am and 3:06 am on March 25 - shortly after Majors is said to have assaulted Jabbari during a cab ride to his Chelsea apartment
The grabs appear to show Jabbari at the bar of the establishment using two hands as she sorts through credit cards and casually signs a receipt
Another shows her partying near the crowded nightclub's host stand - again using both hands
The photos, lawyers claims, show how she went clubbing and got drunk after the alleged assault on March 25
Attorneys for Majors claimed last week that surveillance video exonerates him from any wrongdoing.
Grabs of the footage, filed as evidence Wednesday in New York criminal court, appear to show the Creed star's accuser uninjured and out on the town after an alleged dust-up on March 25.
At the time, Jabbari wrote in a criminal complaint that the scuffle left her with a laceration behind her ear and an injured right hand.
Citing clips that show Jabbari clubbing and socializing in the hours after she said was assaulted, Chaudhry also pointed to first-responder bodycam footage she says shows officers 'coaching' the woman through her account of the alleged assault.
Chaudhry wrote in an accompanying letter: 'Ms. Jabbari attacked Mr. Majors in the car and Mr. Majors did not strike or hurt her whatsoever.
'Hours of security videos of Ms. Jabbari after she left the car prove that she did not suffer any injury in the car, and certainly not at the hands of Mr. Majors.'
News of Thursday's temporary order of protection comes after Majors was dropped by both his management company, Entertainment 360, and his public relations teams, The Lede Company, earlier this month.
Majors has also been cut from various projects, including an Otis Redding biopic, Otis and Zelma, and the film The Man in My Basement, in which he would also serve as executive producer and star with Willem Dafoe.
Majors had been at the height of his career. The Marvel actor recently appeared in Creed III and Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantomania.
He was also involved in an ambitious new recruitment campaign with the United States Army that was released in March.
That campaign has since been paused with the public affairs chief for the office, Laura DeFrancisco, stating that 'prudence dictates that we pull our ads until the investigation into these allegations is complete.'
Army leaders had been excited to feature Majors in the ads, as a key part of their new campaign aimed at reviving the service’s struggling recruiting numbers — which fell far short of their enlistment goal last year.
They believed the ads would capitalize on Majors' popularity and reach a younger audience. The ads, which were to feature in a $70 million ad buy for television and social media, were abruptly pulled and replaced.
US Army ads featuring Major were launched in March but after news broke of his alleged wrongdoing, the Army has temporarily pulled the plug on the campaign
Variety reported last week that Majors had signed a $20 million deal to reprise the role in a franchise based around his character that includes back-end compensation titled Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.
The character is also slated to appear in the Disney+ series Loki. A 2022 Screenrant essay on Avengers' future financial prospects argued that the Kang Dynasty could bring in $2 billion and that Secret Wars, which Majors is also attached to, could become the highest grossing movie of all time.
Variety also reported that more accusers against Majors are set to come forward. A source claimed to the outlet last week that the unidentified women 'are cooperating with the Manhattan district attorney's office.
Earlier this year, the Yale grad received rave reviews for his role in Creed III, which brought nearly $250 million worldwide. In 2021, he received an Emmy nomination for his part in 2021's HBO series Lovecraft Country.
Disney's Searchlight brand also owns the rights to his upcoming movie Magazine Dreams, the story of a troubled bodybuilder that has already generated Oscar buzz. Majors served as a producer on the movie.
Searchlight described his performance as a 'tour-de-force' in promotional materials. The movie, which premiered at Sundance this year, is due to be released on December 8, right in time for awards season.
Majors hired attorney Priya Chaudhry to defend him. She vehemently denies his charges
Other upcoming projects include Spike Lee's Da Understudy alongside Will Smith and 48 Hours in Vegas in which Majors would play former Chicago Bulls star Dennis Rodman.
A Hollywood insider told Variety: 'I think the truth is everyone is waiting to see what Marvel will do. It doesn’t mean everyone will do the same thing, but that’s what people are looking to.'
Majors' attorney Priya Chaudhry also defended Real Housewives of Salt Lake City star Jen Shah on charges of wire fraud, which Shah pled guilty to in February.
Chaudhry vehemently denied the charges against Majors, who maintains his innocence.
[Majors is] 'completely innocent and is probably the victim of an alteration with a woman he knows,' she said last month.
