Hilarious Skyrim Mod Adds ‘Realistic’ Dodge Rolls
A modded gameplay clip from Skyrim is amusing fellow fans with its so-called realistic dodge rolls. Skyrim's numerous mods can add a lot of replayability and realism to the game, but this one is striking many fans as just plain funny.
Skyrim continues to age, but its wide variety of mods help to keep the game fresh and interesting even for those who have replayed it numerous times over. The title still has a large fanbase and active modding community that let players overhaul nearly anything in the game, including adding new or better-looking combat abilities. Melee combat is arguably one area where Skyrim is genuinely showing its age, and mods featuring new animations and movement options can help to fix this. Or, alternatively, they can just provide a laugh, like in this instance.

Reddit user and Skyrim player Salmagros shared a brief gameplay clip of their character, clad in heavy armor, wandering through a town before demonstrating the 'realistic' dodge roll. Their Dragonborn draws their weapon, stalks forward a few feet, and then takes a short leap forward only to flop unceremoniously on their side. After a slight pause, their character desperately scrambles to spin toward the direction they were originally facing, takes a half-hearted swipe with their sword in that general direction, and then gets back on their feet.
With the physical feats usually expected in mods like these, players have found the footage to be quite hilarious. Some argued that heavy armor is easier to move in in real life than one might expect, so a more effective dodge roll might not be out of the question for someone clad in this much gear. However, it's also clear that their Skyrim Dragonborn is over-encumbered in general, so it's probably more than the armor keeping them from performing certain acrobatic feats. In any case, the gameplay clip is hilarious. Unfortunately, despite the clip's popularity, the OP hasn't specified which mod they used to achieve this effect. Some have suggested that it may be Distar's Modern Combat Overhaul, but as there are numerous combat overhaul mods that feature dodging, it's not guaranteed this is the case.
It remains to be seen if the future release of Elder Scrolls 6 sees the return of a similar skill system to Skyrim or Oblivion, or if it charts its own path entirely. Combat and acrobatic skills are very important to level in Elder Scrolls games, and it might be funny to see a character simply flop without adequate skill when performing certain moves. However, it's more likely that it would get them killed and cause frustration, so it's unlikely that players will see their armor-clad warriors dropping onto the ground like this. Thankfully, the modding scene for The Elder Scrolls 6 will likely help to fill in the blanks, just as it has with prior Elder Scrolls titles.
