4 injured, 2 critically, in hit-and-run outside Guaranteed Rate Field before White Sox game: CFD
Three people were struck by a hit-and-run driver outside Guaranteed Rate Field Thursday evening, Chicago fire officials said.
One victim flipped into vehicle as it fled onto Dan Ryan, ISP say; southbound local lanes blocked at 43rd Street, traffic diverted
CHICAGO (WLS) -- Four people were struck by a hit-and-run driver outside Guaranteed Rate Field Tuesday evening, Chicago officials said.
Chicago police said the four pedestrians were struck by a car traveling at a high rate of speed on 35th Street at Shields, outside the baseball stadium just before the White Sox game started.
Three of the four victims were administered first aid at the scene immediately by police on site at the stadium.
"They were all on the ground. One was half on the ground half on the sidewalk the other ones were on the sidewalk," said a witness who asked to remain anonymous.
The fourth victim, when struck by the car, was flipped up into the air and over the front of the car and actually fell into the interior of the car through the sunroof, police said. That victim remained in the car as it fled southbound on the Dan Ryan.
Illinois State Police and CPD immediately gave chase onto the expressway. The vehicle was stopped by troopers and appeared to crash about a mile away at 47th and the Dan Ryan.
Four suspects between the ages of 20 and 25 were taken into custody and to local hospitals to be checked out. Chicago police said they remain in custody.
The fourth victim was also taken from the scene of that crash to a local hospital in critical condition.
CFD said one pedestrian was taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition, and a second pedestrian was also taken to Stroger in serious condition. The third pedestrian was taken to University of Chicago Hospital in serious condition.
The victims' ages range from 24 to 64, Chicago police said.
All local southbound lanes of the Dan Ryan are blocked at 43rd street. Traffic is being diverted off the highway. Drivers should seek alternate routes.
An investigation by Major Accidents is ongoing, police said. No other suspects are being sought.
The White Sox released a statement, saying in part, "Our hearts go out to the four fans who were injured this evening, their families and friends, as well as the fans who witnessed the incident on their way to a baseball game."
