Ezra Miller’s The Flash Is on Track to Be One of the Worst-Performing Superhero Films Ever
In June 2022, amid the unfolding Hawaii scandals and abduction allegations, a parent in Massachusetts secured a protective order preventing Miller from contacting their 12-year-old nonbinary child, alleging Miller had behaved inappropriately around them. On June 30, after the protective order was lifted by the presiding judge in the case, Miller issued a statement on Instagram that obliquely accused the child’s mother of “unjustly” using the courts to harass them, referring to her indirectly as “manipulative and destructive.”
“Protective orders are meant to provide safety for individuals, families and children who are in danger,” Miller wrote. “They are not meant to be used as weapons by those seeking attention or fleeting tabloid fame or some sort of personal vengeance when there are people in true and dire need of these services.”
Miller went on to chastise news media for “recklessly [spreading] false claims” and exhorted reporters to “take time to find the facts, rather than chasing the clicks.”
Ezra Miller Vaguely Addressed Allegations While Attending The Flash Premiere The actor spoke briefly, thanking people for their support in this “very beautiful peregrination.”
While the protective order has been lifted, Miller’s feud with a New England mom is far from the only disturbing story about the actor in circulation. Last year, Miller announced they would seek counseling for “complex mental health issues” and apologized for their “past behavior” — e.g., multiple criminal charges in several U.S. states for burglary, assault, and disorderly conduct, on most of which Miller has gotten off lightly.
The Flash noticeably avoided using Miller themself during the film’s press tour, but the star inevitably arrived at its red carpet world premiere last month issuing vague comments about their behavior. In remarks to the press, Miller thanked “the thousands of artists and workers who made this movie, everybody who supported us in our lives and in the world. And everybody who supported me in my life and in the world along this decade-long trying and very beautiful peregrination.”
One can only wonder why DC didn’t recast Miller in The Flash, especially after making a big show of taking a loss on other projects significantly less burdened by toxicity, like the apparently-never-to-be-seen Batgirl movie. What, bitter? Us? Not a chance.
