After 35 years Capcom is finally making Street Fighter characters relative size on the versus screen

From ample communication to well thought out modes and mechanics, Capcom has already proved many times over they're doing things differently (read: making improvements) in terms of the Street Fighter franchise with the upcoming Street Fighter 6.

Last week's major news drop gave us tons of new information, and one of the smaller, at least in terms of urgency, of the new bells and whistles we noticed comes on the pre-battle versus screen. Zangief, the game's largest competitor thus far, is juxtaposed with the much smaller Cammy, and for the first time we can actually tell that from this very screen.

It's not to say Capcom has never made any nods to the difference in character sizes while they're showcased before fights as it's clear that Street Fighter 5's Abigail, for example, is a bigger body than most everyone else.

Even in the example of the eight foot brawler, though, seeing him first appear next to his foe in game usually still makes for a surprise if you've only seen the previous screens.

We have seen a handful of character juxtapositions on Street Fighter 6's versus screen thanks to the pair of closed betas as well as some developer footage, but it wasn't until last week's info dump that we got a picture of the Russian wrestler next to Cammy on the versus screen.

Zangief, who stands seven feet tall and weighs a little over 250 pounds, absolutely dwarfs his opposition, who is a little over 5 feet tall and weights between 100-130 pounds (these numbers have fluctuated between games).

The Iron Cyclone's head is easily twice the mass of Cammy's, adding very much to the immersive experience Capcom seems to be aiming for with SF6.

Yes, the coolest thing about the SF6 versus screens is the fact that you can cause your character to make four different goofy faces while you wait for the battle to load, but it's at least interesting that developers have finally decided not to make everyone look as though their relatively the same size.

We've nabbed images of Cammy vs. Zangief on versus screens for Street Fighters 2, Alpha, 4, and 5 for you to compare and contrast with the equivalent in Street Fighter 6. You'll notice that while Gief is indeed a bit larger in some of these, Cammy almost always looks closer to the same than she obviously should (she's also obviously standing on apple boxes in the examples that showcase height).
