FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- An investigation is underway after a 15-year-old was shot by a Fresno police officer Sunday morning.
It happened on E. Magill Avenue and N. Effie Street just after 10:30 am.
Fresno Police Chief Paco Balderrama says an officer was towing a vehicle when someone told him there was someone on a scooter with a gun.
Balderrama says while being told to keep his hands up multiple times, the teenager reached for a firearm.
That is when Balderrama says the officer shot the teenager who was wearing a ski mask at least twice.
The 15-year-old was taken to the hospital in critical condition, but Balderrama says he is expected to survive.
Balderrama says the teenager either had an airsoft gun or a replica of the gun he carries himself.
Officers have identified the 15-year-old but are not releasing his name at this time.
